New owner for Woolworth's store at Lanark businesses come - and go

The empty former Woolworth's store in Lanark is soon to have a new owner, with discount retailer Poundland set to take over the High Street store.

Notices have appeared in the window the store - although there is no confirmation of a possible opening date yet. Poundland has over 330 stores around the UK

However, it's not all good news for Lanark businesses, with the news that Cameron's Shoe Retailers, and the Curves gym set to close.

Think it is a great pity that the once thriving town of Lanark is being degraded by the likes of discount shops and take aways. An effort to create something different in addition to upgrading the lower part of Lanark would ,in the long term ,benefit the town, its historic roots and appeal will be lost if the trend sets to continue.
